Why Do We Make it So Hard to Be Saved?

Salvation is a gift. So, why is it so hard to be saved? I have asked myself this question many times. I see so many people struggle with God’s Ultimate Gift on a daily basis because they think that it carries with it a heavy and burdensome responsibility. They also think that by accepting God into their lives, their lives will change irrevocably and they will never be the same again. And that unknown possibility scares them into looking away from the Gift and staying solidly put in their status quo existence.

Go Big AND Go Home…

It is not my burden (thank goodness) to attempt to love people even though they irritate or hurt me. God promises that as I draw closer to Him, and keep his word (the sword) at the ready, He will empower me to love people even when they irritate or hurt me.

There is comfort in this.

The Leap

God’s very nature is Faith. He put us on this Earth with the belief that we will return, freely and willingly, to Him one day. And knowing the very nature of who we are… I only can only assume that it must take a lot of faith on His part!

Even when we are unfaithful, he remains faithful.

You Think YOU Have it Hard?!

Christmas is challenging. It’s hectic. At times, it’s downright CRAZY!

I was feeling this all too acutely the other day while I was on the porch wrestling with the Christmas lights. I could hear my wife in the living area rifling through our many buckets of Christmas decorations while the kids bounced off of the walls, fueled completely by the natural Christmas high of hot chocolate, candy canes, and the general mayhem of getting the house ready for the season.

As I threaded the Christmas lights in and out of the railing…

Christmas Questions to Ponder

Although we’re inundated with Christmas tunes on the radio and decorations galore at the store, Christmas over 2,000 years ago had very little spectacle and flare. In fact, our Christmas of today and the Christmas of then could not be more different. Yes, there was certainly chaos, confusion, and stress for the little family at the center of the story, however this blessed and momentous occasion came and went, and except for a few unlikely guests, most people passed the night without any knowledge that the Savior of the world had come to Earth.

Can you imagine that something so monumental was so inconsequential at the time. Jesus came, and although few had foretold this event and many had been waiting for him, very few noticed his arrival.

Of course, that singular, and seemingly insignificant night would change the world as we know it forever.

So how has it changed you?

Workship vs. Worship

We put a lot of stock in our careers and they become our saviors. We work to be noticed, loved, paid, admired, cared for, and provided for.  The problem with this is when work IS the only defining characteristic and the ONLY thing that can save us, God is no longer in the picture. He is no longer the motivator or end goal and our performance is not based on the gospel, but on a paycheck or even a compliment. We are no longer in a state of worship, but a state of workship.

In the Beginning Was Work

If you interviewed any of my employees or colleagues, they would tell you that I love work. I love the nature or it, the sense of it, the feel of it.  I love sinking my teeth into something hard and then creatively devising a plan that problem-solves the challenge and creates something better. A real […]

Say My Name

The motivational writer Dale Carnegie once famously wrote, “A person’s name is to him or her the sweetest and most important sound in any language.” Most people put a lot of value in their name. It’s part of who they are, their identity, their verbal fingerprint. It’s why people will sit up and listen when […]

Are You the Bible Your Friends Read?

The other day, one of my closest friends mentioned that since I started He’s the Solution, my everyday actions and words have taken on a more ethical and transparent tenor. She said that it wasn’t that I had been dishonest or unethical before, but that I’m more honest and forthright than I was when she […]
